Current batch of homemade

Making food for dogs is fun and not as daunting as some would have you believe. Even just having fresh food added to your pets dry food will give them more nutrients and extend their life! Dogs need at least 70% moisture to digest their food properly. I enjoy cooking for my kids (feed them love) and I will share with you some of those recipes. I am not a dog nutritionist, just an ad vide dog mom who reads and studies pet nutrition.

You also don’t have to home cook if you don’t want to, there are plenty of good commercial options out there, you just have to read food labels! If you’d like to see what our crew approves then check out our “Things We Love” page.

Mom started cooking for the Crew when lil j came into our lives. He had partial seizures that happened after he ate dry dog food. After switching to homemade lil j’s seizures became fewer and far between (usually after a stress event like going to the vet). Then researching kibble and how hard it is for dogs to process we stuck with homemade. Fresh is best for people and that’s no different for your pet. Processed “dead” food that’s made balanced with synthetic vitamins and minerals is the opposite of what every nutritionist tells people to eat, so why would it be good for our pets? You can even start slow and add fresh foods to your dogs kibble to give them an added nutritional boost. Kibble had its place in our history, and no pet wants to eat beef flavored cereal for the rest of their lives so let’s do better for them! That being said, if you do want to keep with kibble, there are better ones out there. Look for meats and organ meats as first and second ingredients and try to keep it under 2 or 3 carb sources per recipe. When home making, stay away from recipes that have legumes and unnecessary carbs like pasta and rice. Your crew doesn’t need these! Not every recipe on Pinterest is a good one, look for recipes from certified dog nutritionists, or holistic vets like Dr. Judy Morgan and Dr. Karen Becker.
