Raw goat milk

Raw Goat milk is a great super food for your pets. You can add it to their dry food, as a snack or even as a meal replacement for sick pets that won’t eat solid foods. There are two kinds of raw goat milk that we have used, including Answers and Primal brands. They have tons of probiotics, live enzymes, vitamins, minerals and fatty acids. The crew gets some fermented raw goat’s milk every night with their dinner! Dogs can’t digest food properly without it having between 60% and 75% moisture, otherwise it will take moisture from other areas of the body like the kidney and liver. Some pets will try to drink a huge amount of water after a meal to balance it out. If you do feed a dry food then try moistening your food with water, bone broth or raw goat milk first and see how it improves your pets health!

Side note - Goat milk purchased at the grocery store for people is not the same as raw goats milk. Human grade milks are pasteurized to be on store shelves and this removes all of the beneficial bacteria and enzymes. Look for a raw fermented goat milk for your furry friend!

Fresh vegetables

Fresh vegetables in your dogs diet will help your crew stay strong and healthy! There are many vegetables and fruits that your dog can safely eat (and some that they can’t so be sure to check if you’re in doubt). Some of our crews favorites are red, orange and yellow peppers, cucumbers, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, blueberries, watermelon, green beans and the occasional carrot. For small dogs, having snacks that are high in fiber and low in calories is especially important - and fresh and frozen vegetables help keep the crew full and not put on the excess pounds!

Raw boNe snacks

Pets can eat size appropriate raw bones with supervision! Not all bones are edible, what you are looking for are edible bones that can be completely digested. Small dogs like our crew can eat chicken necks, chicken wings and chicken feet! Bones that are weight supported on animals are not recommended because of their density and bones must be raw when fed! Cooked bones splinter and can cause many injuries for your friends, stick with raw non-weight bearing bones and always supervise when your dog is eating them to make sure they don’t choke it down.

Edible bones are rich in nutrients, minerals and can aid in dental care, growth and digestion.  An edible bone is a bone that is softer, usually hollow, and covered in cartilage or other connective or meaty tissues. Typically an edible bone is a poultry bone, but there are others out there like the Answers fermented pigs feet. Some smaller pet stores will carry edible bones in a freezer for you to try. You will also see many dehydrated edible bones in stores these days like turkey necks, and duck heads! I recommend feeding some fiber with your bones to make sure everything passes out smoothly. Kibble cleaning teeth is a myth of the pet food industry, try a raw bone and then look in your companion’s mouth, you’ll be amazed at how much cleaner they look after a good chomp! If you’re interested in trying an edible bone but nervous on where to start look for pre-packaged bones for your pets by Answers Pet Foods and Primal Pet Foods.

Side note - While most dogs are fine with edible bones, some are sadly not. If your pet is ill, old or has bad dental health then edible bones may not be for your crew. Do some more research on edible bones for dogs online and make the best decision for your crew.

PreMade Foods

Our crew doesn’t eat kibble, but in a pinch we have used premade foods when a new batch is late or not yet defrosted. Primal frozen foods, Northwest Naturals, Instinct, and Stella and Chewy’s dehydrated foods are often incorporated into the crew’s diet. Every morning for breakfast the crew gets some kind of dehydrated raw nuggets or patties because it is easy and not as gross when eaten on the bed at 6 am. Check out some of the brands we have used below and look at their ingredients online!

Full Spectrum CBD Oil

Full spectrum CBD Oil is beneficial for many reasons, the first reason we started using it was for J’s seizures. Lola Hemp is a full spectrum CBD Oil from organically grown hemp. Each batch is tested for purity and potency and they have helped with everything from seizures and anxiety. You can even check out their lab tests online (don’t buy CBD for you or your crew without seeing the lab tests from a company, make sure it is legit)!
