Golden paste

Golden paste is made from turmeric, organic coconut oil and black pepper. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory, can help fight cancer and protects the liver. It is easily made at home and creating the paste makes it much more bio-available for your crew to digest (you can even take it yourself!). I highly recommend the Turmeric User Group on Facebook to learn more. Golden paste is an anti-coagulant and does have interactions with some medications so be sure to check the group and make sure that your crew can have Golden Paste added to their diet safely.

Our crew has golden paste in their food batches to help with stiff joints!

health and food Supplements

There are two reasons to use supplements, to balance your homemade food and to support a specific problem your crew is having. We use supplements for both reasons in our house! Supplements for balancing food should be a whole food supplement, not synthetic based. One that we use for food balancing is RX vitamins for pets. They make separate supplements like B vitamins and B12 and also a mix of essential vitamins and minerals to add to food. We also use kelp for iodine support and probiotics we get from the crew’s primary vet.

Standard Process is a supplement line that needs to be ordered through a veterinarian. They do this to make sure you are using the product correctly and although it can be tedious I understand their point. Health supplements should have a purpose and theirs do! Standard Process is also a whole food supplement. In our house we use the Canine Cardiac Support for Beans to help with his age related heart disease. Integrative veterinarians are very helpful in picking out which supplements would be best for your crew and ailments. You can locate Integrative veterinarians by using this website -

Joint support

There are lots of joint support products out there, but what is the best when it comes to your crew? Joint support is very important in our household because Libby and Ti Ti both do agility, and we want their joints to stay flexible and strong to be able to compete without problems. Green lipped mussels have fatty acids, glucosamine, chondroitin, anti-inflammatories, vitamins and minerals (they’re also sustainable!). We use green lipped mussels in our crew’s food but also give it to them in a supplement. We use the Primal Elixir Joint Health, which is found in the frozen section of some pet stores. Mom freezes it in small molds and pops a few in the crew’s dinner every night. We have also used Glycoflex 3, which is a small bone shaped supplement that is shelf stable for those dogs on the go! There are also powdered forms of green lipped mussel joint support that are shelf stable you can add to your pets food as well! Whatever way that works best for you and your crew is a great way to support joints as they age.
